The beautiful little village of Hali'imaile is located only a few minutes up Haleakala Highway, before Pukalani or Makawao. If you come down this way, you'll find a general store and restaurant, a distillery, and then the quaint Hali'imaile Park. The park is mostly just an open field, but it has one tennis court and one basketball court as well. The park is just under 6 acres in size, and has a gymnasium as well, which you can reserve. The Maui County website says there's a swingset as well, but I didn't see it. As for bathrooms, there's a small one near the tennis court, and a bigger one in the gym.

Parking is limited here, with just a dirt lot on the main road side that can accommodate about 20 cars. Thankfully, this park is out of the way and you're likely to never have trouble with parking. Aside from the gym, there's also a youth center with a kitchenette available to rent. Not bad for a park that sees so few visitors. If you do come to Hali'imaile park, take note of the large, beautiful trees that border the property. If I were 10 years old again, I'd be climbing all over them. This park is a great place to take a shady picnic under one of the huge trees. Bring a blanket to sit on, because there's only two picnic benches available, and they might be occupied when you show up.

If you walk around the fence, you'll find a small footpath to Punawai pond. I wouldn't swim in it, but take a look. Maybe you'll spot some wild animals taking a drink. There's plenty of trash in the grass though, so watch your step. You don't want to get cut on glass or something.
